It's a New Year

Let me start by saying to all my blog readers - Happy New Year! May 2008 bring you joy, happiness, and success (see below for poem). Thanks for the time you take to read my rantings and ride reviews. Thanks for the comments and all of the love.

2008 started with a bang. We rolled up to T-town for New Year's eve and spent the evening with my parents and my brothers and their families. Too much food, great company, warm conversation, and smooth music. We didn't spend the night-too much going on in thriving Newberg on the 1st.

After getting up and taking down the tree lights, I met up with the group in the picture of a New Year's Day ride. It was a balmy 44 degrees with no rain and dry roads. We headed South to the flat lands. After 12 miles, we stopped and let the rest of the group catch up. I was riding with the two triathletes that I rode STP with - Mr. Bleed and Lifesaver. The other part of the group was heading back and we wanted some more miles so we went deeper, ending the day with 37 miles in about two hours. It was good to be out pushing the pace and seeing how the legs felt. The legs got worked out and the cardio was good. Solvang is only eight weeks away and I have some work to do. The rest of the riding for the week was done indoors with the same scenery.

Two goals this year: weight down and more miles. So far, weight is the same and miles is better than '07. More work to do but it will get done. Let's ride...

Success:

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
(Editor's Note: Yes, I know - my team went home yesterday. It is good to be home.)

I don't have introspection of Colin and Christine, but I do admire your goals and what you have accomplished this past year. Keep up the good work (by the way you have inspired me so I'm off to ride my bike for the first time in 2008.
